17/11/2012 - Four countries in one day

Just a small trip for the day then!

Hello Honduras
Our home for the day...

A night in Managua couldn’t be avoided, and getting a bus at 4am jangled a few nerves when we were struggling to get a taxi. That said, the alterative was a hotel 50m from the bus station, but after hearing about a mugging during that short walk we decided being far enough away to justify a taxi was the way to go. 3 border crossings, 770kms and 19 hours later we were safely in Antigua, Guatemala.

Goodbye Honduras, great to visit!
Near the El Salvador border
Key Learnings:
1. Take more than a couple of water bottles before starting a 17 hour bus journey, even if the service is rumoured to include 3 meals (it won’t!). Another thing we should have already learnt by now! Our solution was several packets of crisps and cookies…
2. Passport stamps are not always guaranteed when crossing a border – missed out on El Salvador, but got in and out unscathed
